Game Takes: Rangers 2 Flames 0

What is it about the New York Rangers and Calgary Flames in Manhattan?

Last year they played what many felt was the regular season’s most exciting contest. Tonight may not have hit those same levels but it was on the same page as the Flames and Rangers had a spiriting game featuring one of the better goalie battles we’ve seen.

For the Flames, you just have to tip your hat.

Another gutsy performance from a team that didn’t get the memo that their season is over because they’ve traded some key players.

They finish the road trip 3-1-0 and on the outside, but playing some of their most exciting hockey we’ve seen this season.

Game Takes: Flames 5 Islanders 2

February 10th, 2024 | Posted in Game Takes | By: D'Arcy McGrath

Who honestly could have predicted this?

The Flames win their last game before the all star game in a listless Saturday night game against the Blackhawks where they were embarrassingly carried by their goaltender.

So not a lot of folks had a three game win streak in the North East with the same crew minus Elias Lindholm taking to the ice.

But that’s exactly what we’ve seen, as the Flames continued their pattern of jumping on teams early and then relying on Jacob Markstrom to take victories home in a 5-2 win on Long Island this afternoon.

With the win the Flames reeled in another West team, the Predators, and remain a point back of the Blues with St. Louis having two games in hand.

Today the heavy lifting from Mackenzie Weegar who notched his first ever NHL hat trick.

For however long it lasts, this is becoming a pretty interesting story.

The Flames go into Boston and win without Elias Lindholm.

Great story, but how about an encore as the Flames hold serve by beating the Devils 5-3 in Jersey to run their record to 2-0-0 on this four game Eastern trip and to within a point of a playoff spot.

The path is doubtful, but damn if it isn’t becoming a fun possibility!

Not sure anyone was expecting a game like that, coming off the all star break, and icing a roster for the first time in six years with Elias Lindholm.

Says a lot about this team’s level of pride and integrity.

The Flames showed up on time and put in one of, if not the best efforts of their season in beating the Boston Bruins 4-1 on Tuesday night.

The Flames were led by Jonathan Huberdeau with his best game in Flames silks, and saw the newest Flame, Andrew Kuzemenko light the lamp in his debut.

Game Takes: Leafs 4 Flames 3

January 18th, 2024 | Posted in Game Takes | By: D'Arcy McGrath

The Flames have beat some good teams lately, but often with some asterisks.

The Knights were missing key players for example, and certainly the Wild as they hit their skid were without a lot of key players.

Tonight they ran into a team that was relatively healthy and firing on all cylinders as the Flames were bested by the Maple Leafs 4-3 on Thursday night on the strength of an Austin Matthews hat trick.

The loss breaks a Flames win streak of four games ,and sets up a very important game on Saturday against the Oilers.
