When it comes to prospects, prospect depth and the draft it’s literally been famine or feast for Calgary Flames fans over the years.

From first round busts and prospect lists topped by depth players and tweeners to graduating their first round choice straight to the National Hockey League in three straight drafts (small interruption in the time continuum for the Dougie Hamilton transaction), Calgary fans could be given a pass for wondering whats what if Jusso Valimaki heads back to the WHL this season.

But that’s not normal. Generally prospects take some curing before they are ready for the big stage, and with that we take a look at the current stable of hot housed prospects hoping to add to an already young NHL core. – Full Article –


2016 Summer Prospect Rankings – Summary

With Brad Treliving at the helm Calgary fans have seen a real changing of the guard when it comes to the club’s NHL roster, but also the prospect list voted upon every summer by Calgarypuck.com hockey fans.

Over the past two seasons, the Calgary GM has moved expiring contract players for draft picks which has given him more currency to either select more players, or use them to add established players to the NHL roster.

The prospect list took a bit of a hit, or at least it did at first glance when picks were used to acquire Dougie Hamilton, while this year the acquired picks were retained giving the Flames a 9 player boost to their prospect group. – Full Article –


2015 Summer Prospect Rankings – Summary

What better way to fill in those annoying gaps between the hockey season, the hockey off season, and the next hockey season than to conduct a series of 40 prospect polls in 40 days from early July until mid August.

I mean seriously, why would hockey think it should just go away, right?

For the third straight summer Calgarypuck.com has solicited the voting opinion of its readership to rank the Calgary Flames prospects from one to the mid 30s.

As a result we’ve built up an interesting database of past opinions, some of which have proven astute, others completely off the mark.
