The night had the making of another Dustin Wolf steal.

He had the teams even through two periods despite the Flames being completely outplayed and on their way to defeat.

Then Jakob Pelletier scored the go ahead goal, adding to his night of nights, and the Flames just ran away with it with two empty net goals, taking some pressure off Wolf.

Great goaltending can steal you games. But it can also keep you in a game until the skaters find a way to deserve a good fate themselves.

Game Takes: Flames 3 Jets 1

There are games where your goalie is better than the opposing goalie.

And then there are games where your goalie is the only reason a hockey team won a hockey game.

Tonight was one of those nights.

Dustin Wolf was at his absolute best tonight, stopping 38 of the 39 shots he faced in pacing the Flames to a 3-1 win in Winnipeg on Hockey Day in Canada.

The win gives the Flames an even road trip with two wins and two losses, to keep pace in the West for that final wild card spot.

Unbelievable goaltending.

Game Takes: Blues 2 Flames 1

January 14th, 2025 | Posted in Game Takes | By: D'Arcy McGrath

A gutsy effort by the Flames and their goaltender Dan Vladar on the second half of back to backs.

Down a goal just a minute into the game, the Flames grind it out to the point where they tie it up in the third period, and then lose on a turnover with about eight minutes to play in a 2-1 loss to the Blues.

The loss snaps the Flames three game win streak, but they stay in a playoff spot with the Vancouver Canucks losing in Winnipeg.

The Flames have the Blues again on Thursday night, once again in St. Louis.

The Flames scored more than three goals!

In fact they scored more than four for the first time since October in a 5-2, relatively easy, victory in Chicago on Monday night.

The Flames were fueled by Jakob Pelletier with two goals and an assist, two helpers from the NHL debuting Rory Kerins, and another solid night from Dustin Wolf.

The win moves the Flames into a playoff spot in points and win percentage, leap frogging the Vancouver Canucks.

Playoff spot in mid January. Nobody saw this coming.

Game Takes: Flames 2 Kings 1

Not sure the Flames fully deserved that one; they may have had a bit of a steal from their starting goaltender.

But two points is two points. The Flames turned a 1-0 Kings lead into a 2-1 come from behind victory to stack back to back wins after losing two before their road trip.

The Flames were fueled by Matt Coronato who had a goal, and an assist and led the team in underlying numbers.

The win keeps pace with the Canucks who won in Toronto tonight, keeping the standings super tight as the Flames hit the halfway mark on the season.

Just can’t believe how gutsy this team has been this year.

I personally didn’t have them in it in mid January.

Quite the story.
